This occurred while driving to work on a converted cabin along the St. Croix river late last fall.
The area is beautiful; glacial
formations of topography, wild and strewn with pine.
I caught a glimpse of the birch in the autumn light and first mistook it for smoke. I mean I was fooled!
And then just as mysteriously as it appeared, it was gone.
